NEW AWARD ISSUED
By-Products Workers Weekly wages have been increased by 6s 8d and hourly rates by 2d under the terms of the Canterbury and Otago and Southland byproducts workers’ award just issued by the Court of Arbitration. The monetary allowance for clothing has been increased from £l3 a year to £l5 where clothing is not supplied. An added clause provides that three weeks’ annual holidays shall be allowed for the fifteenth and subsequent year of continuous employment with the same employer. The extra rate for shift workers has been increased by Is 6d.
The provisions relating to wages are retrospective to March 16. The rest of the award came into force on April 12. The award incorporates the terms of settlement reached by the parties. It contains an unqualified preference clause.
Chemical-Manure Workers
The minimum rates of wages for Canterbury, Ota?o and Southland chemiealmanure and acid workers have been increased by 2d an hour bv the terms of a new award. The shift allowance has been increased by Is 6d. The provisions of the award relating to wages are retrospective to February 20. The rest of the award came into force on April 12. The award, which incorporates the terms of settlement arrived at by the parties, includes an unqualified preference clause.
