Police Order Full Inquiry
(N.Z, Press Association) WELLINGTON. April 16. The Commissioner of Police (Mr C. L. Spencer) has ordered a full-scale inquiry into allegations by a youth aged 17 in the Magistrate’s Court at Auckland on Saturday that he had been “knocked about by four policemen.” The youth, Joseph Henry, a polisher, appearing on a charge of being drunk, told the Magistrate (Mr A. A. Coates) he had received a bad bruise on the left side of his head and a gashed lip while in the cell of the central Police Station.
London Dock Fire,—Firemen battled for more than three hours last night to control a fierce fire aboard the Israeli freighter Rimen at London docks. More than 100 firemen and 30 fire engines attended. London, April 16.
