FIRE BOARD SECRETARY
Full-time Post Suggested A suggestion by Mr A. S. Hollander that the Christchurch Metropolitan Fire Board should consider having a full-time secretary was rejected by the board at its annual meeting last evening. Mr Holland’s suggestion was lost bv four votes to tw*o. Before the vote was taKen the chairman (Mr W. R Campbell) said: “We have a full-time secretary now, and have had for a long time. He is not a 40-hour week man. Mr Campbell was supported by Mr W. H. Mathison, who said that while the present secretary (Mr S F. Mjlsnall) might be contemplating retirement, the board should not displace him at a time when it was making considerable progress in the fire protection of Christchurch, rod when some of the measures now being brought to •* conclusion were a result of Mr efforts.
