FIRE BOARD CHAIRMAN
Casting Vote In Election Mr W. R. Campbell was re-elected chairman of the Christchurch Metropolitan Fire Board last evening, but only on his casting vote. He will resign and face a new election the next time there is a full meeting of the board. Only six members of the board attended last evening. Mr Campbell, who has been chairman for several years, was nominated by Mr R. J. Daly. Mr W. E. Olds, who was not present, was nominated by Mr A. S. Hollander. After a secret ballot was held, the secretary (Mr S. F Marshall) announced that the voting was equal. Mr Campbell then said he would give his casting vote in favour of himself in the meantime so that the board would have a chairman. He would resign at the next full meeting so that an election could be held.
Mr Hollander objected that when the election took place there was no chairman, but was over-ruled on a point of order.
The following executive was elected;—Messrs Daly, Olds, and W. H. Mathison. Other appointments were: Building sub-committee. Messrs T. F. Perkins. Olds, J. R. Smith, and Campbell.
