Christ’s College Well Placed Nelson College, winning the toss and batting first, was in a poor position at the end of the first day’s play in its annual cricket match with Christ's College at the Christ's College ground yesterday. Nelson was dismissed for 75. Christ’s College replied with 193. and in its second innings Nelson College had scored 15 for the loss of wickets at stumps The visiting side was out soon after lunch for 75 runs made in 121 minutes. The Christ’* College off-spinner N Wilder did most of the' damage flighting the ball well and tempting the slow-moving Nelson Players into popping the ball into the air. He was well supported by the left-arm spinner M. G Lester, and H. J. Taylor took four catches at short leg. The Christ's College openers set about the Nelson bowling to put together 101 in only 74 minutes. R. Bromley made a forceful 72, and Lester hit 54 The middle-order batsmen were m trouble against the accuracy of the medium-paced D. A Ault, but towards the end of the innings S. J. Blakeley and B. Andrews took the score to 193. made in 170 minutes. Nelson College was again away to a bad start in its second innings, and is still 103 runs in arrears with only eight wickets standing. Scores:—
