FAILURE OF POWER
New Plymouth Airport (N.2. Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH. Mar. 4. An aerodrome fire tender radio was used by New Plymouth airport control to communicate with scheduled passenger aircraft using the airport for part of today. The compact battery-pow-ered radio was used to send approach, landing and takeoff instructions to a National Airways Corporation aircraft from Auckland after the electric power supply to the airport failed about 9 p.m on Saturday. Then the auxiliary plant failed. Normal power was not restored until about 3 p.m. today after New Plymouth City Council Electricity Department faultmen had worked late into the night and through most of the morning.
