Assistance For S.P.A.N.Z.
(NX. Press Association) AUCKLAND. March 4. Airlines of New Zealand had asked the Government for financial assistance, the chairman of directors (Mr J F. Johnston) said yesterday. He denied a report that the State had been asked to hold a third of the airline’s shares and Ansett Transport Industries. Ltd., a third Ansett at present has 49 per cent, of the shares pie assistance request and other proposals were being considered by the Minister of Civil Aviation (Mr McAlpine) Mr Johnston said th’-ee separate financial proposals had been submitted, but he declined to reveal the amounts involved The sums were small Negotiations were at a delicate stage he said.
