Paying For Politics

Sir.—The annual report of the Master Grocer’s Federation, quoted in your General News column today, does not surprise me greatly. Their one concern, of course, would be to wheedle the last penny out of a long-suffering public. Money spent on putting a political party into power might instead be spent on a few more groceries. The points I would like to make is this: the sooner we give awav party politics and have a real government reform, say, one member from each province, each independent, with right of recall, the sooner we may have a sane government. At the present time we have six members from each side of the House sojourning in Asia at our expense. The industrial fiasco will cost the country millions, all a result of party politics.—Yours, etc., C. C. SMITH. February 13. 1962.
