“My Fair Lady”
Sir, —I would like to express the opinion of myself and a party of friends who went to see “My Fair Lady.” We are Cockneys and not deaf; but we could not hear the dialogue at all clearly, and that spoilt the enjoyment of a wonderful show The acting, dancing, and scenes were excellent. We could hear a few laughs from the audience in front, but we missed the jokes as they were inaudible. Eliza spoke her Cockney accent too fast, but improved when she spoke naturally. Mr Higgins’s voice did not carry too well at times. Mr Doolittle’s husky voice was not very clear. Otherwise the show itself is very enjoyable, but you need to be in the front if you want to hear all that is said.—Yours, etc., ANOTHER COCKNEY. February 14, 1962. ,
