RAIL TRACKS AT PORT
Inspection By Minister The realignment of railway tracks at Lyttelton when the eastern harbour works are completed were discussed by the Minister of Railways (Mr McAlpine) with members of the Lyttelton Harbour Board yesterday. Plans of the eastern extension were shown to the Minister. a former member of the board, and he also visited the site of the development works. Members of the board explained the lay-out of the extension and the need for realignment of railway tracks and a reorganisation of the railway marshalling yard at the port. Mr McAlpine said the matter was being investigated by departmental officers and would be the subject of a report to the board. Earlier, board members inspected slipways and launching ramps on the south side of the harbour. Holiday Extension. — The Australian Council of Trade Unions filed an application in the Industrial Registry today to have the metal trades ward varied to provide three weeks’ annual leave instead of the present two weeks. An additional week is sought for those who have to work on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays.—Melbourne, February 12.
