CHARGED WITH SHOPLIFTING
Committed To Supreme Court (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Feb. 11. Thomas Edward Stone, aged 30, a boardinghouse proprietor, and Rose Mackie, aged 28. a domestic, went shopping in Upper' Hutt on December 19, but the expedition turned into one of shoplifting, said Sergeant G, E. Twentyman in the Magistrate’s Court, Upper Hutt. Stone and Mackie, both of Wellington, were committed to the Supreme Court for trial after pleading not guilty to two joint charges of theft. Messrs R. H. Ashford and E. R. Menzies, J.P.s, were on the bench. Sergeant Twentyman prosecuted and Mr L. F. Beck, on behalf of Mr ,J. A. L. Gibson, appeared for the defendants.
Stone, who appeared in Court last week wearing women’s clothes and was ordered to change into men’s attire by Mr Drummond. S.M., appeared wearing tight trousers, suede boots and a brown duffle coat. He and Mackie are alleged to have stolen a women’s night dress and pyjamas from Prices Drapery. Ltd., and two radios, valued at £55. from Electric Refrigeration (N.Z.), Ltd.
