Women’s Bowls Hutt Team Is N.Z. Champion
( N.Z. Press Association) HAMILTON, Feb. 10. The Lower Hutt four, skipped by Mrs L. E. Tricker, won the New Zealand women’s championship fours at Hamilton today. The four, comprising Mesdames Tricker, D. Murray, J. Williams and P. Simpson, defeated the Hawera Club four skipped by Mrs I. Opie, in the final by 21-15.
In the match to decide third and fourth placings, Mrs R. Ryan (Waharoa) easily defeated Mrs A. Barr (R.S., Westport). 27-8. Mrs Tricker did not gain complete control until after 15 ends when the score was 13-11. She won the next four ends and virtually had the game won. With one end left, and the score 21-14, Mrs Opie's four had to score eight but the steady drawing of the Lower Hutt four did not leave them any chance of achieving it.
