Speedway Moore Wins N.Z. Title, Just Misses Record

PALMERSTON N„ Feb. 10. In a record-breaking performance, R. Moore, a former world champion, won the New Zealand speedway title at Palmerston North showgrounds on Saturday night. With his leading rival, Auckland’s M. Dunn, unable to ride because of an injury he received the week before, Moore had little opposition.
Even so, he took no chances and in the second race came within .2sec of the fastest time ever recorded on the track. In 1949 G. Craven and P. Pollett set a world record for the mile clutch start with a time of Imin 12sec.
M. Neil (Auckland) came closest to Moore, while Scottish champion K. McKinlay took third place. Results were:—
