Three-Year-Old Boy Drowned

A three-year-old boy was drowned in the Wiri stream near Papatoetoe late this morning. He was
Michael Joseph McVicker, son of Mr and Mrs B. McVicker, of 231 Puhinui road, Papatoetoe.
Police said they believed the boy went with his eight-year-old brother to the stream, near the Ruscommon road bridge, about 11 a.m. They were looking for plant food for tadpoles when the younger boy fell in. His brother w’ent for assistance and local residents and Constable D. Pomeroy, of the Otahuhu Police, dived for the body. It was recovered about mid-day.
