WOUNDED WITH OWN BAYONET
Soldier Faints On Parade Ground A soldier of the NelsonMarlborough - West Coast Regiment was wounded under the chin by his own bayonet when he fainted on parade on Saturday. The regiment was being inspected by the Mayor of Nelson. Mr F. I. Russell, in conjunction with its annual march pas’ through the city The soldier, Private C Baker, aged 20, of D company, fell heavily to the ground while the Mayor was inspecting A company His rifle and bayonet skidded towards him inflicting a halfinch wound He was assisted from the parade ground by Sergeant le Febre and Mr G Wood Four stitches were required to close the wound. Last evening the Nelson , Public Hospital, where he is under observation for suspected concussion, reported his condition as satisfactory.
