Cost Water Supply
The Rangiora County Council will hold a special meeting Later in the month to discuss the water supply at Cust because of the outbreak of hepatitis in the area. The Rangiora Health Inspector (Mr R. N. Thompson) will attend the meeting and make a full report on the water supply and drainage.
Euphonious Caspar
Admiral Sir Caspar John, First Sea Lord and Chief of Naval Staff, and a son of the late Augustus John, OM, admits that he has a most unusual Christian name. “Of course, I received it from papa,” he said, “but precisely why I never was able to find out. When I asked him about it, he replied that it was euphonious, and that it went quite well with John.” He added that he was interested in art but not to the extent of taking up pencil or brush. “The reason that my father and I got along so well was because he left the Royal Navy to me, and I left art to him. In that sense we were poles apart.”—(P.A.)
Stung Unconscious Mr Walter Panther, of Victoria Valley, North Auckland was stung unconscious on Monday after he had been attacked by red Tasmania wasps An arm, his face and neck have swollen badly since he was attacked among scrub on a hillside. He sent his son Jim home to tell Mrs Panther after being stung She found her husband stretched out unconscious but he recovered after a few minutes.—(P.A.) Fish Scarce There was an extremely small supply of fish available in Christchurch fish shops yesterday. Fishing boats would not go out because of very rough seas. Fishing Rivers The Hurunui, Ashley, Waimakariri and Selwyn rivers were all reported to be clear and fishable at 9 a.m. yesterday by the North Canter bury Acclimatisation Society The Rakaia rivei was dirty at the gorge and clear and fishable at the mouth The Halswell river was fishable subject to Catchment Board operations, and the Waiau river was slightly discoloured.
