Persian Star May Win Rotorua Cup

•The Presa" Special Service

AUCKLAND, February 9. The highly-premising three-year-old, Persian Star, and the Rotorua specialist. Lavish Countess, seem likely to bettie out the finish of the Roto-

rua Cup tomorrow. Persian Star had two gruelling middle-distance races in three days at Ellerslie a fortnight ago—and only bad fortune prevented him from winning one or even both of them. Lavish Countess contested the main handicap on each of the three days of the Wellington Cup meeting, acquitting herself well. They have both had a chance to freshen since, and indicated in their track work this week that they have come through the hard racing in good heart.

Besides these two are many possibilities for the Rotorua Cup. In the upper part of the handicap, are Jim's Count and Mardendellas, which have both won open handicaps in the Auckland province since Christmas. Khorazami and Gold Raider have shown their ability at shorter distances, and could cause an upset. Bemuse is a capable middledistance performer on his

day and Special Terms looks the best of the light-weights The Rotorua Cup is the first leg of the T.A.B. double.
