New Statesman Favourite
(NZ Press Assn.—Copi/rlpM) MELBOURNE. February 9 Punters will get their last look at the equal Newmarket favourite. New Statesman tomorrow before he runs in the £5OOO Flemington sprint on March 10 New Statesman is the oddson favourite for the £2OOO weight-for-age C F. Orr Stakes at Moonee Valley. His trainer, B. Courtney, said today: "I will not start New Statesman again before the Newmarket."
Unless programmes are changed. Columbia Star, the other equal NewTnarket favourite. will not meet New Statesman before the big race
Columbia Star is due to arrive from Sydney soon and will have his first run in Melbourne in the Oekleigh Plate on February 24. Bookmakers have New Statesman a “red hot” favourite for the Orr Stakes.
