February 9 The main races at the big Queensland racing carnivals this year, which always attract some of the best of New Zealand horses, will carry prize money totalling £48,000 They are the £2OOO Ipswich Cup. to be run on May 26. the £lO.OOO Stradbroke Handicap, on June 2 the £12.000 Brisbane Cup. on June 4. the £l5OO Mnreton Handicap, on June 9. the £2OOO Tattersails Cup. on June 16. the £10.500 Doomben Ten Thousand on July 7. and the £lO 000 Doomben Cup on July 14. The Ipswich Cup will be run at Bundamba. the Stradbroke. Brisbane Cup. Moreton Handicap and Tattersalls Cup at Eagle Farm, and the Doomben Ten Thousand and Doomben Cup at Doomben. The Doomben Ten Thousand is the richest sprint in Australia.

Queensland's three top sprinters, the main dangers to any New Zealand acceptors, are being specially trained for the Stradbroke and the Ten Thousand. They are Red Shirt, a four-year-old bay gelding by Gaekwar's Pride from Gazelle Girl. Highcelo, a four-year-old horse by Orgoglio from Hill Hyacinth, and Hoss, a three-year-old bay colt by Jungle King from Courto.

Queensland has a few good stayers, but an outstanding prospect for the cups is Mirrimbul. a four-year-old chestnut gelding by Signalman from Lumiere.
