MUSICAL SOCIETY BOTTLE DRIVE
Extra Collection Next Saturday
The response to the Royal Christchurch Musical Soc.ety’s bottle drive on Saturday was so great that members were unable to collect <.J the bottles offered and the rest will be collected next Saturday.
The deputy-conductor of the choir (Mr V. A. Ellenai said yesterday that Saturday's collection would have raised at least £2OO towards the £12.000 the society needed to send its 180-strong choir to the Adelaide Festival of Arts next month.
At 8 am. on Saturday 30 choir members were at Bryndwr to help collect the bottles from 300 telephone calls. Three large trucks and-several vans, all loaned by city firms, together with a driver and two assistants, were also ready. "All we can do is apologise to those we could’nt get to on Saturday and tell them we will be round next Saturday." said Mr Ellena.
