No Decision Yet On Robbery Reward
(New Zealand Press Association)
AUCKLAND, Jan. 8.
No dividend has been declared yet in the bankruptcy of Trevor Edward Nash, aged 34, a cargo-worker, who was adjudged bankrupt in 1959 on the application of the Auckland Waterfront Industry Commission. In 1957 Nash was sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment for the theft of £19,875 from the commission. The Official Assignee at Auckland, Mr E. C. Carpenter, said today that there were some funds in hand. The Auckland manager of the State Fire and Accident Insurance Company, Mr J. Hutchison, said no reward had been paid for the recovery of £2590. three transistor radios, three wrist
watches and a camera found on Nash when he was arrested in Melbourne in July after his escape in February last year from Auckland prison A reward of £5OO was offered by the company at the time of the theft. Since then four amounts of £25 have been paid for the recovery of some qf the stolen money.
Mr Hutchison said that until his company had received the money and proceeds from the sale of other property found on. Nash, it would not be in a position to make a reward payment. He said the most likely candidate for a reward payment would be the Australian detective, Senior-Detective R. Henderson, who recognised and arrested Nash in Melbourne. The payment would probably be made on a pro rata basis.
