Fitment Succeeds At Cambridge

CAMBRIDGE. January 7. The high-class pacer. Cardigan Bay, was gallant In defeat tn the New Year Handicap, the first leg of the double at Cambridge on Saturday. After being badly placed earlier he made a sustained run on the outside and fust failed to reach Fitment, which fought on tenaciously. The race was run in rain on a dead track. On-course the totalisator handled £39.919, compared with £34,292 10s last year. Of this £3414 10s was invested on doubles, compared with £1999 last year. In the second leg, the McMillan Trotting Handicap, Ordeal thrilled a large crowd by quickly making up his handicap of 60 and having his opponents beaten at the straight entrance.
