LOTTERY TICKETS
Distribution By Population (N.Z. Preu Association) AUCKLAND, Jan. 7. Agents selling Golden Kiwi lottery tickets axe getting a population distribution which is the only fair way of doing it, said the lottery’s organiser Mr Neil McArthur, in Auckland today. Mr McArthur was commenting on a report from Westport about agents and public dissatisfaction concerning the limited number of tickets available. The report says .that Westport agenits are threatening to stop selling Golden Kiwi tickets. “The limited number of tickets applies to all New Zealand and Westport is getting the same number of tickets as Auckland in proportion to population,” said Mr McArthur. He said there were unlimited numbers of tickets in the art union but only 250,000 for the Golden Kiwi. He had spent nine months averaging out the different areas for quotas. "The demand for Golden Kiwi tickets is enormous and greater than expected," he said. Mr McArthur said he could not do anything about a person making certain with an agent that he did not miss out on a ticket by making a booking. This was not illegal.
Mr McArthur said agents could not be selling tickets for lottery nine, as reported, because the seventh was only on the market this week.
The Westport report says Westport agents are threatening to stop selling tickets in "Golden Kiwi" lotteries. This is after reported widespread dissatisfaction among the public and agents concerning a shortage of tickets. Some Westport sellers were trying to discourage people from placing orders for the limited tickets available and although books for the sixth lottery had just been received. most egents were now selling tickets in the ninth.
