TRAPPED BY TRACTOR
Miraculous Escape
(N.Z. Press Association) WHANGAREI, Jan. 7.
A man who was trapped under his tractor on his farm at Waikiekie for nine hours had a miraculous escape from serious injury yesterday. He is Mr G. E. A. Watt, a farmer.
Mr Watt was cutting trees about a mile from the homestead when the accident occurred. His wife said today that he began cutting a tree about 10 a m. He had just completed one round when the tractor struck a mound the remnants of the gum-digging days and capsized.
“I did not know anything about it until about 7.30 at night," Mrs Watt said. “I had been expecting him in for dinner and got a bit worried, so 1 went to look for him. “I found him trapped under the wheel of the tractor. ‘He was in a bad state and barely able to call out as be had been lying there all day “If the mudguard had not been so strong he would certainly have been killed. “Everyone said he had a miraculous escape,” Mrs Watt said neighbours and nearby lime workers assisted her in shifting Mr Watt from under the tractor. He was taken to the house by stretcher and later removed to the Whangarel Hospital, where he is recovering from bruises and shock.
