PAKISTAN BORDER

Indian Troop Moves Denied (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) LONDON, January 7. Indian troops had begun massing on the West Pakistan border, a Pakistan Government spokesman announced last night. Ad armoured division had been moved to Jullundur, 70 miles from the border, and two armoured brigades had been sent to Amritsar, 30 miles from Lahore, the West Pakistan capital. The “Sunday Telegraph” said Pakistan newspapers yesterday “displayed prominently” the news of the Indian troop concentrations. Pakistan's fears about Indian intentions had been accentuated by Indian leaders threatening military action, the newspaper said. It quoted the President of India’s ruling Congress Party, Mr Sanjiva Ready, as having said at the party’s congress in Calcutta yesterday: “Within a short period of time the Government will choose the correct time to liberate Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, as it did Goa.” Officials in New Delhi said today that the reports on the troops were basically incorrect and without foundation, the British United Press reported. The Indian Minister of Defence (Mr Khrishna Menon) said India had not aggressive designs against Pakistan and would abide by its commitments to the United Nations.
