The nativity scene in the Square, Palmerston North, was destroyed by fire early this morning. This is the second time the nativity scene has been burnt. The first time was Christmas, 1960. The Palmerston North Fire Brigade sent two machines, with high-pressure equipment to the blaze but only the shelter was saved. The C. 1.8. have arrested a man who will appear in the Magistrate’s Court later. The shelter and the contents were valued at £5OO.
