CAR STRIKES POLE
Somersault After Blow-Out
The driver of a car was lucky to escape serious injury when his car somer-
saulted/several times before striking a telegraph pole north of the Hinds bridge on the main highway, about 1 am. on Saturday.
He is Terence John McCarthy, aged 25, of 17 Clifton terrace, Sumner, Christchurch, He was admitted to the Ashburton Hospital with mildj concussion and his condition yesterday was satisfactory. The accident occured when a tyre burst about 120 yards north of the Hinds bridge. After somersaulting several times, the car left the road, struck the pole and landed on its roof. It was extensively damaged. Mr McCarthy, who was the only occupant of the car, was travelling north.
