Croquet TOURNEY AT TIMARU
Ford Defeats Boniscli (b’-Z. Press Association) UMARU. January 4. H. Ford (Wellington) had a narrow win over A. J. Bonisch (Gore) in the first round of the second-life of the South Island croquet championships at Ashbury Park today. Ford had a points advantage when Bonlsch played a good break and looked as if he would peg Ford’a forward ball out. Bonisch baulked at the penultimate hoop. Ford then played a very difficult shot to give him the decision. Results:— Women's Championship First Life.—Second round: Mrs L. G Mlddlemis* (Pukekohe) beat Mrs R. Stuart (Christchurch). 26-14; Mrs H. Dempsey (Waimate) beat Mrs W. Salton (Oamaru). 26-24: Mrs A. G. Rawlinson (Methven) beat Mrs A. Bonar (Christchurch), 26-1. Second Life.—Second round: Mr s R. Henry (Christchurch) beat Mrs Bonar. 26-6; Mrs L. Hight (Morrinsville) beat Mrs F. Orwin (Wellington). 26-11. Men's Championship Second Life—First round: H. Ford (Wellington) beat A J. Bonisch (Gore), 26-20, Second Life.—Second round: Ford beat M. Porter (Alexandra) 26-3; G. Broadhead (Timaru) beat C. J. Pomeroy (Christchurch). 26-23. ’ Championship Doubles First Life.—First round: A. A. Saalfleld (New South Wales) and W. B. C. Paynter (Lower Hutt) beat Mesdames G. Bridge (Timaru) and L. Stockdale (Christchurch), 26-18. Second Life.—First round: Middlemias and Mrs Mlddlemiss beat Mrs Dempsev and Banish, 26-20; Mesdames Salton and L. Retail (Oamaru) beat Mrs C. G. Bishop (Ashburton) and Mrs C. Wilson (Timaru). 26-13; C. J. Pomeroy and Mrs Pomeroy (Christchurch) beat Mesdames Bonar and Henry. 26-24; W. H.
