MALVERN BATS WELL
Sub-Association Shield Match Batting first Malvern put on 300 runs In fast time in the Sub-Association Shield match against North Canterbury at Sheffield yesterday. Top scorer for Malvern was N. Wright, who batted soundly arid patiently for his 88. The first 50 came up in half an hour, and with R. Gunne stroking the ball to all parts of the field, runs came freely. Best of the North Canterbury bowlers was J. Thompson, who took four wickets for 51 runs off 21 overs. Thompson gave his off-spinners plenty of air, and deserved his success. When North Canterbury batted, M. Logan was in an aggressive mood, and scored 48 in fine fashion. E. Bailey batted well for his 46 not out. A. F. Wright bowled economically and well with his nagging left-handed deliveries. His average gives testimony to his accuracy. The scores were:— MALVERN First Innings R. Farrant, c R.
