Five Officials From Canterbury
Five officials of the Canterbury Surf Life-saving Association have been appointed officials at the national surf championships, to be held at Wellington in March. Mr S. B. Mason is to be referee, Mr L. J. Tointon assistant marshal, Mr D. M. Richardson chief timekeeper, Mr D. M. Brown assistant starter, and Mr M. B. Restall computing steward. Advice of the appointments was received by the Canterbury association from the New Zealand council last night. The association made final arrangements for demonstrations in life-saving and the expired-air method of resuscitation to be held at Woodend and Gore Bay. The demonstration at Woodend will be held on December 27. and at Gore Bay on January 7. The Waimairi club expressed its intention of supplying a reel and line at Southshore during the holiday period. Concern had been expressed in the area at tie lack of life-saving equipment, and the need for such equipment would be greater with the increased number ■( bathers during ’ne holidays. Mr G. Le Cren notified the association of his withdrawal, because of unforeseen circumstances. from the position of beach patrolman at Sumner for the holiday period. Mr D. Lyons, a member of the Sumner club, was appointed in his stead.
