MINOR FIRES
Eight Calls To Brigade The Christchurch Fire Brigade was called to eight minor fires yesterday. A rubbish Are on the property of Robert Watt. Ltd.. 657 Colombo street, was extinguished by three units from the Central station at 10.31 a.m. yesterday. At 10.38 a.m. a unit from the St. Albans station attended a grass fire on the Shirley golf course. Slight damage was done to one wall by a fire in the washhouse at the home of Mr D. H. McKinley. 79 Domain terrace, Spreydon. Units from the Central and Sydenham stations answered a call received at 10.42 a.m. A fire in a boundary fence between the properties of the Fuller Clothing Company and Ballins Breweries, Ltd., in Byron street, Sydenham, was extinguished by unit - , from the Central and Sydenham stations at 12.31 p.m. Slight damage was done to a garage belonging to the Fuller Clothing Company, and six crates of bottles owned by Ballins Breweries. Ltd., were damaged. A grass fire on the property of Mr J. A. Blair. 29 Mountbatten street. New Brighton, was attended by two units from the New Brighton station at 1.7 p.m. At 3.56 p.m. they went to a grass fire on Christchurch City Council property in Broad road. North Beach. Units from the Woolston and Central stations extinguished a grass fire in St. Martins valley late yesterday afternoon. There was no water in the area and the firemen, assisted by local residents, beat out the flames. A grass fire at the Immigration Hostel at 34 Hansons lane. Upper Riccarton, was extinguished by units from the Sockburn and Central stations at 6.22 pm. yesterday.
