Christmas Parties

Sir, —“Do Unto Others” made no reference to the Christian festival of Christmas being used as an excuse for an increasing number of liquor-sodden parties which commence early in December. There is much opportunity for this season of goodwill being used to bring a little happiness to the lives of the handicapped here, or the impoverished overseas. Managements and staffs could cooperate in dispensing with these meaningless swills just as organisations have discontinued forwarding meaningless cards. No-one here would suffer hardship from a reduction of these liquor parties, but the money, usually wasted, could give many thousands of Asians at least one decent meal on Christmas Day. Such a gesture would do much to build up goodwill, so lacking in a world torn with tensions and suffering.—Yours, etc.. CHRISTIAN CHRISTMAS. November 27, 1961.
