Empty Beer Bottles
More than 90 per cent, of empty beer bottles were recovered, the Brewers’ Association of New Zealand advised the council of the North Island Motor Union. Because of its concern over broken bottles on highways, the council has suggested that a higher recovery charge on beer bottles might result in fewer bottles being thrown away. The Brewers’ Association replied that it was doubtful whether a higher charge would result in more bottles being collected: but it would mean a readjustment of the price structure. Greater publicity could be given to the danger of breaking bottles on highways, and penalties might be increased, the association suggested.—(PA.)
