Children’s Court Cases Heard In October

The tohowlng offenders were dealt with in the Children’s Court during October by Mr Raymond Ferner, S.M., and bis associate, Mr W. C. Colee:— Three girls and two boys were committed to the care of the Superintendent of Child Welfare: a 16-year-old girl on 13 charges of false pretences; a 15-year-oid girl on 19 charges of false pretences; a 22-month-old girl on complaints of hot being under proper control and .iving in an environment detrimental to her physical wellbeing; a 10-year-old boy for attempted arson and theft, and a 16-year-old boy tor theft and unlawful taking. Two boys were placed on supervision for two years: a 13-year-old for unlawfully taking a power-cycle and a one-year-old on a complaint of “not under proper control.” One 15-year-old boy was placed under supervision for 18 months for 24 charges of unlawfully taking motor vehicles. Three girls and three boys were placed under supervision for one year: a 15-year-old girl, found to be not under proper control was ordered to live where directed; two 14-year-old girls, one for receiving; and the other _for giving a false alarm of fire, was ordered to E ay £1 5s costs; a 12-year-old oy for theft; and two 14-year-old boys for theft and were ordered to pay £4 11s 9d restitution.

One 15-year-old boy had his supervision extended six months tor being not under proper control.

Eight boys were admonished and discharged: three boys, aged 14, 13 and nine, for theft; for

wilful damage four boys aged 17. 14, 13 and‘lo, and one boy, aged 14, for defacing and damaging walls. Three girls and two boys were admonished and returned to the care of the Superintendent of Child Welfare: a 17-year-old girl was fined £9 on three charge* of theft; one 17-yearrold girl on a charge of theft; one 14-year-old girl for giving a false alarm of fire; for five charge* of conversion involving car* and a power-cycle, a H-year-old boy was ordered to pay £47 17s restitution, and a 14-year-old boy for breaking, entering and theft.

Traffic Case* The following boy* appeared on traffic charge*;— A 16-year-old and a 15-year-old for driving without due care and attention wore admonished and discharged. For having no warrant of fitness and licence plate* a 16-year-old was fined £6. For driving dangerously and exceeding 30 mile* an hour, a 16-year-old had hi* licence cancelled for two year* and was fined £lO. Two boys were fined £2 and £3 respectively for exceeding 30 mile* an hour. For having no front or rear light a 16-year-old was fined £1 10s. A 16-year-old for having no driver’s licence was fined £2. For cycling at night without a front or rear light a 13-year-oid was admonished and discharged.
