OVERFAT LAMBS
Export Ban Extended
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. Nov. 16 Tlie Meat Board has instructed its graders that overfat lambs in 29 to 361 b weight ranges are not to be graded for export. This is an extension of the board’s ban last season on overfat lambs in the 36 to 421 b and 43 to 481 b ranges. The new measure was mentioned today by Mr C. F. Jones, one of the newlyelected North Island representatives on the Meat Board, when he addressed farmers at the Bay of Plenty export lamb competition at the Westfield freezing works. He said he did not think, however, that the number of lambs rejected for export would reach any great proportions. Mr Jones said that, in spite of statements to the contrary, the Meat Board considered that the British lamb market was not oversupplied. The proof of this was that in the last two years New Zealand had put increasing numbers of lambs on to the market and they had all been sold. The price had been lower, said Mr Jones, but this indicated that as far as consumption was concerned saturation point had not been reached.
