RESTRICTIVE PRACTICES

Criticism In Victoria

(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) NSELiBpURNE, Oct. 12. Restrictive trade practices had forced the Victorian western district municipalities to consider formation of a new state, delegates said at the Municipal Associatian annual conference in Melbourne today. Cr. N. G. Nicol (Portland) claimed that vested wool interests were stopping wool sales being held at Portland. "A move was made recently to establish sales at Portland so that local growers could use the new port facilities and so reduce handling charges,” Cr. Nicol said. “But the National Council of Wool Brokers refused to allot Portland a sale date, and issued a directive to the Wool Buyers’ Association that buyers should not attend any sales at Portland. "We are tired of empty mouthings and promises about decentralisation. We’ve been forced into considering a new state. Our area equals Tasmania,” he said.
