TROIKA PLAN CONDEMNED
“Creation Of More Blocs”
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, October 6.
The Russian troika plan to replace the Secretary-Gen-eral of the United Nations would mean that each member of the proposed threeman executive would first be responsible to his country, not the world organisation, Mr F. Shanahan, New Zealand’s former resident United Nations representative said in Auckland today. Such a situation could only lead to the creation of more power blocs in the United Nations and defeat the purpose of the organisation. Mr Shanahan arrived back today in the Monterey after six years overseas. He said that as yet he did not know what his pew post would be in Wellington.
It has been suggested that Mr Shanahan' will become deputy-Secretary for External Affairs or a personal aide to the Prime Minister.
