DERRY’S BRASS BAND

Mr N. Taylor New Director The new musical director of Derry's Brass Band is Mr N. Taylor, a former member of the band, which he joined in 1949. Mr Taylor has a wide and varied experience in brass band and orchestral music at the Christchurch Technical College under Mr R. E. Perks. He was deputy-con-ductor of Derry’s Band for some years before becoming conductor of the Sumner Silver Band in 1956, which had many successes under his conductorship and contains many players trained by him. His work with the Sumner Band will end after the Canterbury provincial brass bands' contest on October 14. Next year Derry’s Band will attend the New Zealand brass bands' contest to be held in Dunedin, and it will also celebrate its sixtieth anniversary. Mr Taylor organised a youth band which took part in the recent Youth Week activities.
