LAST BIG SEARCH
Effort To Find Miss Mayes (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, October 6. The biggest search party New Zealand has ever seen will search the Wellington and Hutt. Valley areas this week-end in a final attempt to trace Miss Wendy Catherine Mayes. Wellington police officers tonight said they could remember no previous search in which more than 150 men had been used. Tomorrow 180 searchers from the usual police parties and scores of civilian volunteer groups will enter the field, while more than 200 will make the same effort on Sunday. Officers from the search control centre at Wellington central police station said today they were staggered by the intense interest and support shown by many organisations and clubs.
This week-end will see the last of the big volunteer efforts, although a group of 20 police searchers will be kept on the job for the next few months if no trace of the missing 16-y.ear-old Lower Hutt girl is found. She has been missing from her home for 17 days.
