Factory Hands Laid Off
(NX Preu Association> HASTINGS. October 6. Thirty-one employees of Morrison Industries, Ltd. Hastings, have been laid off work this week. The managing-director (Mr J. Goodwin) said today that the general economic situation. and delays through adverse weather in the construction of the firm's new factory, had made this reduction in staff necessary. Nuclear Device Fired’—An abnormal atmospheric pressure, presumably caused by a nuclear device fired somewhere north-west or north-north-west of Japan, was recorded by the Japan Meteorological Agency today. The shock waves were recorded for about 30 minutes to an hour. The explosion is thought to have been in the range of several megatons.— Tokyo, October 5.
