Extension To Cost £150,000 A chapel with an area of 2200 sq. ft is included in plans of extensions to Holy Name Seminary, Riccarton road. Foundations for the £150,000 extensions are now being laid. The chapM will seat 200 and will have a blue glass mosaic ceiling. The altar will be reached up circular steps. The plans also provide for 98 students’’ study-bedrooms, two lecture halls, a common room, rooms for house masters; a library in the present chapel, an infirmary, and changing rooms for sports. Two new storeys will be added to the east end of the present building. The extensions will have an area of 24,000 sq. ft. The architects are J. G. Collins and Son. The alterations and additions are planned to follow the lines of the existing building. There will be a brick exterior, with reinforced concrete used on some walls and floors. The roof will be tiles, with steel trusses. Some of the interior will be plastered and an extensive use has been made of terrazzo. Two of the dormitories in the present building are being adapted to give individual bedrooms. Parts of the chapel will incorporate part of a housemaster’s room. Each of the individual rooms will have a washbasin, cupboards, wardrobes and a desk. An appeal for £250,000 has. been launched by the Roman Catholic Church for these extensions extensions at Holy Cross College, Mosgiel.
