ST. MARK’S SCHOOL
Present Roll Held Uneconomic The present roll of 102 at St Mark’s Church Primary School is below the number required to run the school economically, says a report to the Anglican Synod of the Diocese of Christchurch by the Rev. R. O. Williams. Educationally and economically the school is geared to a roll of 130 pupils, the report says. There has been a decline in pupils during recent years, but there are signs of recovery. Factors which might affect the roll of the school are: some families consider the fees too high (£8 a term for one child, £l3 for two children, and £lB for three ■>( more children of the same family); the fluid state of the fee scale; lack of a kindergarten for the last three years to “feed” the school; and the opening of a model school at St. Martins.
