State House Rentals
Sir,—Like Mr Barnsley I think there is need for a State tenants’ association in Christchurch as there" are many tenants who are not happy about their treatment by the S.A.C. regarding rent increases and repairs. I was shocked to learn that the hire-purchase queries on the rental assessment objection form do not carry any weight with the S.A.C. in having the increase reduced. There are many tenants who voted for National in 1960 and have now changed their minds because of this cruel and vicious action of the Government. We even have the S.A.C. telling us that new tenants since 1955 cannot object to the Magistrate’s Court. These houses were not built to show a profit, but to provide homes for the people who could not afford to build their own homes.— Yours, etc., DISILLUSIONED NATIONALIST. October 2, 1961.
