LOCAL BODY MEETINGS
City’s Policy On Committees If the Minister of Internal Affairs (Mr Goto) introduced legislation to admit the public to local authority committee meetings which had been delegated authority to take action it would not have much effect on the city council, said the Deputy-Mayor (Cr. H. P. Smith) yesterday. Generally, the work of committees consisted of considering recommendations from departmental heads and preparing reports and recommendations for the full council in open meeting, he said. It was seldom that a committee was delegated power to do a particular task. The council’s committees reported more to the open meetings of the council than was the case in any of the other main centres, Cr. Smitn said. In many cases three to four times as much was reported.
