LOCAL LETTUCES 6s EACH
Hot Weather Brings Demand Local hothouse lettuces sold in Christchurch shops yesterday for up to 6s each. A shortage of lettuces in the markets and an unexpected demand because of the warm weather combined to raise the price to its highest level for years. Nelson lettuces sold in the markets for up to 55s 6d a case, nearly double last week's price. They sold in shops for 2s 6d to 4s 6d each Asparagus was also dear because cold, wet weather had delayed suoplies. It sold for up to 5s 6d a bunch in shops.
