Diocesan Standing Committee
A bill authorising an increase from 10 to 12 in both clerical and lay membership of the standing committee of the Diocese of Christchurch, was passed after its third reading at the annual Diocesan Synod yesterday afternoon. After considerable discussion. during which several country delegates put forward their case for increased country representation, the bill, an amendment to a 1891 statute, was passed. A Berlin veterinarian who did an autopsy on the zoo's hippopotamus found a live hand grenade to its stomach.
