£145 Paid For Dresden Piece
"The Press" Special Service AUCKLAND, October 2. Antiques, period furniture, silverware and objets d’art sold well at a public auction in Auckland and £4500 was realised. Buyers from as far away as Christchurch were present among the 300 in attendance. A Dresden figure group fetched £145, the highest price for a single lot. A three-piece silver tea service of William IV period (about 1832) sold at £l4O. A watercolour of lake scenery by J. C. Hoyte was sold for £lOO. Bom in England, Hoyte was well known in Auckland in the 1860’s and 1870’s, and was a founder of the Auckland Society of Arts.
Miscellaneous lots sold included a copper warming pan £B. Sheraton mahogany revolving bookcase £23, Victorian mahogany oval’ toilet mirror £lO, Queen Anne walnut table £35, Victorian pole screen £25, Victorian inlaid davenport £55. Victorian grandfather chair £95, and French suite £B5.
