ANTARCTIC VISIT

Plan For End Of Meeting (From-Our Own Keperter) WELUNGTON, Oct 2. The president of the Special Committee on Antarctic Research (S.C.A.R.), Mr G. R. Laclevere, and 14 members attending the fifth annual meeting in Wellington next week have accepted an invitation to spend a week in the Antarctic after the meeting. The invitation was extended to member countries and to the officers ot S.CA.R. by Rear-Admiral D. M. Tyree, through the United States National Academy of Sciences committee on polar research. The party will leave Christchurch on October IT by a United States aircraft. During their visit 10 members will live at the Amerioan base, and five at Scott Base. Sir Vivian Fuchs Sir Vivian Fuchs, the director of toe Falkland Islands’ Dependencies Service, will be one of the three United Kingdom advisers at the annual meeting of S.C.A.R. The other two United Kingdom advisers will be Mr A. H. Sheffield, of the department of technical co-operation in the Colonial Office, London, and Dr. B. Stonehouse, senior lecturer in zoology at toe University of Canterbury. The Australian delegate is Professor K. E. Bullen, prolessor of applied mathematics at Sydney University, who will be accompanied by six observers. Professor Bullen is a New Zealander. Argentina will be represented by Admiral Rudolfo Panazarini, a retired professor of Oceanography at the University of Buenos Aires. He will be accompanied by Dr. Otto Schneider. Dr. Schneider is chief of the Institute Antarctico Argentine, an expert in upper atmosphere physics and a graduate of toe University of Berlin.
