GRANTS FOR THEATRE

Applications

Called

<N.t. Press Association) WELLINGTON, October 2. Organisations In the amateur theatre movement throughout New Zealand are being invited by the Arts Advisory Council to apply for grants from funds available to toe council.

Announcing this today, toe deputy chairman of toe council (Mr 3. V. Meech) said: “Grants will be made to assist projects undertaken next year by dramatic, operatic and musical comedy societies and opera groups, according to the merits of the applications. Grants will not be available for capital purpose*.''

Sufficient funds were not available for the Arts Advisory Council to make individual grants to all societies in the amateur theatre movement, and the council would, therefore, recommend grants after considering the needs and intentions of all applicants and the funds available. The comments on each application of toe appropriate national organisation would also be taken into account.

Mr Meech said that applications for awards to assist individual study in music, drama, ballet and the visual arts would be accepted this year until October 16. Application forms were available from the Arts Advisory Council.
