T. J. Jeffery Wins (N-Z. Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH. Sept. 17. The New Plymouth player and Freyberg Rosebowl representative. T. J. Jeffery, led the field by a clear two strokes when a sponsored open 54-hole tournament was concluded at New Plymouth today. In second place, and the leading professional, was F. X. Buckler (Lochiel). Buckler's final round of 70 was the best in the tournament, and gave him a to'al of 219. against 217 by Jeffery. One stroke behind in third place was the Napier professional. E. A. Southerden. who had rounds of 74, 73, and 73.
The Ngamotu links, over which the New Zealand open championship will be played next month, were in excellent condition. Although there were changeable winds on the two days, it was not really tough, but no player in the strong field broke 70. Leading scores were.—2l7 T. J. Jeffery (N.P.) 73, 71, 73: 219—F. X.
